Rules...

The organisers of the Watamu Triathlon sent out the following rules. I especially love the one about crawling in the running leg. I read intently the rules for the bike leg, since yours truly is cycling in the relay triathlon , M doing the swim and A N Other lady doing the run. Somehow I don't think I will be drafting behind anyone, or even vice versa come to think of it. Darling Johnnie on the other hand no doubt has some tictacs up his sleeve. Oh silly me he won't have any sleeves as he will be wearing the slick black go-faster tri-shorts which leave little to the imagination, but he says quite frankly who cares if it keeps him from touching the seaweed, makes him more aerodynamic on the bike and like greased lightning in the run. Go Johnnie!! Thibaut is even doing the kids event on Saturday - swim-run-swim - and he will certainly be getting some (possibly unwanted) attention as my gorgeous 8 year old boy will be wearing a bright fuchsia wetsuit, courtesy of Carmen, Emma and Margaux! And he said he doesn't care what he looks like as it is "good to be different". Swim Leg Rules:  1. Swimmers may use any stroke to propel themselves through the water. 2. During the swim, competitors may stand on the bottom or rest by holding an object such as a buoy or stationary boat but may not use either to gain an advantage. 3. If a competitor is in trouble, he or she can call for assistance by raising an arm overhead. Once assistance is given, the competitor must withdraw from the competition. 4.  Triathletes may wear wetsuits during the swim leg, only if the water temperature is 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) or lower. 5.  Wetsuits must be worn in water colder than 14 degrees Celsius (57.2 degrees Fahrenheit).   Cycling Leg Rules:  1. Competitors are allowed to draft off of one another or ride directly behind another competitor to avoid wind resistance. 2. Although drafting is allowed, competitors may not block out other riders. 3. During the bike leg, triathletes may not move forward without the bicycle. 4. Triathletes may not ride the bike in the transition area and are subject to a time penalty or disqualification if they do so.   Run Leg Rules: 1. Competitors are allowed to walk, but they cannot crawl during the run leg. 2. Triathletes must not wear headphones or headsets. Apologies for lack of paragraphs etc - this a test using my iPad, and I have tried in vain to make it more pleasing to the eye. Right better get on and prepare my tri-bike for the big race and catch up on some bedtime reading...
