Botanicals... flora/fauna, snakes et al ...

Here The botanical/flora/fauna trends aren't going anywhere anytime soon; on the contrary, it is blooming into the whole Origin of Species spectrum - we will be seeing lots more snakes/geckos/chameleons, jellyfish and other marine life in addition to the already omnipresent birds, leopards, toucans etc.  Let's embrace returning to our roots and let's get inspired.  Incidentally, that reminds me that the school friend who borrowed my beloved edition of Charles Darwin's masterpiece - she knows who she is ... and if she opens the cover will see my name neatly written in beautiful cursive: To Naomi, With love from Mummy and Daddy for your love of nature, we hope you love it! 25 September 1983.  Karma...

The Sabie Sofa by Ardmore

Back in February of this year Ardmore designers released two limited edition Sabie sofas (30/30, here is the tanzanite colourway, where dancing elephants mingle amongst monkeys, giraffes and dancing ostriches.  Walk don't run to snatch up one of these.

Last year I used Emma Shipley's Audubon wallpaper and matching fabric in a project in Kenya, the client was a huge fan of botanicals and the expansive salon needed a touch of exoticism and it looked fabulous paired with Farrow & Ball's Vardo and at one end of the reception room I introduced a touch of leopard (well it's a neutral isn't it?) with House of Hackney's Wild Card.

Aquatic life, such as the starfish, crustacea and jellyfish are now very much on trend - I saw lots of it in Maison et Objets in Paris in January, and these beauties hand-crafted and hand-painted porcelain "Ocean Collection" by Minucci Interiors are stunning. The ocean-inspired pieces are beautifully finished with elegant gold detailing, making them a unique and luxurious addition to any table setting.

Many of us have used the iconic zebra design by Scalamandré, but have you all seen it's new fellow grasslands' inhabitant - the "leaping cheetah"?, another graphic piece of excellence, on the same rich plain backgrounds (cream, clementine, pink bubblegum, calm mid blue and my favourite evergreen - pictured below.

Feeling as if you need a sacred snake to watch over your living room?  then check out House of Hackney's hand crafted Cobra lamp with the rich textured anaconda velvet shade (sold separately.  Not for the weak-hearted, but a portion of sales of this will be donated by HoH to Friends of the Earth's campaign to replenish new trees in the UK - so it's a win-win, helping you have a stylish house and helping the environment - what not to like ;)

That's all from me.  My in-box is filling up with new Christmas products and launches - I know it's feeling chilly here... but it's only July!  Not sure my next blogpost will be festive in the Christmas sense.  I've recently been sketching a lot during the lockdown so perhaps my post will be about the importance of sketching for designers, and how I've always got a sketchbook on the go.  Who remembers Moleskin's sketching installation at the V&A in London ...
